School Age

You have chosen our lessons for School aged children.

All children’s lessons last half an hour and are taken by an experienced and qualified Swimming Teacher in the water with the children. There are no more than seven children in a class, often less.

Depending on the age of the child, progress can often be rapid. Assessment for moving up to the next group is continual. This means that the children are constantly being assessed to see if they are ready to progress to the next level. Distance badge testing takes place every eight weeks if their teacher feels they are ready and a ‘Flipper Day’ follows badge week which is always a big hit with the kids.

The Free Trial we offer will allow the Teacher to

assess your child swimming skills

advise you which level they should join when signing up.

Have a look through the classes available and see which one would suit you best. You can then complete the form to request a free trial lesson.

What should my child bring to their swim lessons?

Well fitted costume and goggles. We have a full range of child's goggles available.

Do I need to go in with them?

No, you don’t. Taking your shoes off, or wearing covers provided, deliver your toddler to the teacher in water. The teacher will stay with your child and introduce them to the joy of swimming. The small pool is only 0.5 metres deep so most three year olds can easily stand.

How much would it cost?

Our membership fee is £39.61 a month

Is there a viewing gallery?

You can view the small pool lessons from our reception area, where we have a large TV screen in to watch. The small teaching pool is not overlooked but is close enough to hear. The teacher has a response bell if a child is distressed or needs the toilet. Once settled, you can even get a nice cup of coffee.

Where are you located?

Our address is Shirley Swimming Pool, Kentish Road, Southampton SO15 3GR. Just off Shirley High Street near McDonalds

Is there parking there?

Yes, we have our own free car park with 19 spaces and 1 disabled bay. There is also on-street parking.

What changing facilities do you have?

We have traditional ladies and gents changing rooms, both have shower facilities, toilets and lockers, which take 20p coins.

What happens after my free trial?

We are going to send you some forms to complete for your direct debit which will need to be handed in at the start of the trial. Assuming you like the lessons, the space will be secured for you with payment for all lessons before the 1st DD payment along with a £5 admin fee payment.

If you do not wish to continue at the end of the trial lesson, your form will be returned to you with no further commitment.
